Job Summary:
Rainforest Adventures has a full-time position open in the animal care department for a motivated zookeeper with experience in captive care of wildlife.
Organization Overview:
Rainforest Adventures is home to over 130 species of tropical animals, including small primates, birds, reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and domestics on 2+ acres in the heart of Sevierville, TN.
Located in East Tennessee, Sevierville is the gateway to The Great Smoky Mountain National Park and attracts over 14 million visitors a year. Sevierville is one of the most popular tourism destinations in the country and is within a day's drive of two-thirds of the population of the United States.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Animal Husbandry & Safety:
- Provide overall daily care of assigned animals and exhibits to ensure animal health, safety, and staff and public safety.
- Observe and monitor animals’ general health and behavior, reporting any abnormal behavior to a supervisory staff member.
- Prepare and provide diets, enrichment including following written instructions to ensure proper nutrition and health.
- Clean animal exhibits, holding pens, food prep areas, and equipment, maintaining a high level of sanitation and conducting pest control activities as guided.
- Achieve high standards of animal welfare and wellness by providing environmental enrichment and training sessions, using operant conditioning as applicable.
- Follow all safety protocols, participate in practice drills and emergency preparedness training annually.
Communication:
- Maintain animal records and software to ensure proper daily documentation.
- Ability to collaborate with other zoo personnel, such as Groundskeeping, Guest Services and Education to maintain clear and open communication for zoo-wide initiatives.
- Be able to take part in training seasonal interns within the department as needed.
- Engage the public through educational programs and impromptu animal talks to promote wildlife conservation and environmental awareness.

Position Requirements:
- High school diploma (or equivalent) and 2 years work experience OR
- 4-year college degree and 2 years work experience (zoo field/non-domestic experience preferred)
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry and a dedication to wildlife conservation and education.
- 2 years of experience working with reptiles, amphibians (preferred, not required)
- Able to maintain a clean, professional appearance.
- Able to see color, stand, stoop, crawl, climb, reach and occasionally lift a minimum of 45 lbs.
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Successful completion of a post-offer background check.
