Temporary Animal Keeper - Animal Ambassador

The Akron Zoo is seeking a Temporary Animal Keeper in the Education Department for a six-month paid position (40 hours per week). The candidate should have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a mature attitude to work exclusively with the Animal Ambassadors. This position is responsible to provide husbandry, training, and enrichment; as well as providing public programming to a variety of audiences on zoo grounds with the bulk of the programming occurring during the spring and summer season. Successful candidates must be comfortable speaking to audiences of all ages.

Current Hours worked: 8:00am to 5:00pm
Hourly rate: $12.00/hr.
Initial Days off: Wednesday-Thursday
Position Location: Education Department - Animal Ambassador Team

Requirements

A minimum of six months of animal care experience at an AZA facility and a four-year degree is preferred. A minimum of three years of progressive work experience is strongly preferred as well as prior show/educational experience. Must be available weekends, holidays, and for a flexible schedule and must be able to meet all other requirements of the job.

This seasonal six-month assignment is a 40 hour per week position.
